30 Day Self Portrait Project Finished!
WooHoo! Today I have finished my 30 day self portrait project!
Every single day in November, I have taken at least one self portrait of myself, ranging from traditional portraiture, to umm..slightly more abstract images involving parts of my body. (It’s not what you think!) .
The goal of the project was to force myself to think about portraiture more often, and to approach photography more organically; to spend more time experimenting with ideas.
In most ways the project has been a success. I now feel more confident about taking, and editing portraits. I’ve also spent more time practicing and experimenting with Photoshop; I’m really starting to see what amazing things Phtoshop can do, even if i am only scratching the surface.
Concentrating on a particular theme for the last month has also been a nice break to my usual daily photo routine of landscapes or still life.
But I know I could have done better. I had some great ideas, but often being on my own during the week, it’s been very difficult to plan and find time to set up a tripod or lighting to get the shot I wanted.
I look forward to doing another self portrait project in the summer, when I’ll have more light and more time in the day to try out some of my ideas.
So, here are my 30 self portraits!

Well done!
I really like thoughts, how did you take it?
You’ve got some fantastic results from this project.
Thanks very much!
Thoughts was a bit of odd one, it seemed better in my head then I could do it in reality!
It is a composite image of
1. Portrait of me looking moody.
2. Photo of some old fashioned Christmas light bokeh
Then I just put the two together in photoshop….
great idea
did you take them all ( I know self portraits implied you did) or get someone to take some?
if you did with timer or remote?
Thanks Patrick.
They were all done on my own, using a self timer. The outdoor ones were a bit tricky as didn’t have the privilege of having a tripod to use while I was on my lunch break!

Loved your project, Chris! I found it very inspiring! I’m in the middle of my 30 Day self-photography project, which is including some self-portraits. Thank you for the inspirations!
Hi Robyn,
Thanks for commenting. Glad you liked some of my self portraits!
It was a lot of fun, but was hard to begin with; I hate taking photos of myself! But I guess thats why they call it a self portrait challenge!
Good luck with yours!

Wow you are really creative, I love it
I feel like I want to do the challenge but really I know I won’t be able to find an idea, also I am not photogenic! I also have a problem when I see really good photos like yours i get instant inspiration and motivation and want to start shooting right away buy after a short while all I can think of is I can never get ideas like they do or all the ideas have finished. I know it’s kind of pathetic… I lack confidence so much when I’m with another photographer especially.
Anyways , lovely photos and are you going to do more challenges?
