If it looks like I haven’t been doing much portrait or wedding photography recently, its well…because I haven’t. I’ve been having some time off. Time away from the big DSLR and the constant pressure to be creative, inspired and working 24/7.
Next year is going to be such an amazing year for me personally, and for Scuffins Photography. We have so many wonderful couples, so many amazing opportunities ahead of us, we can’t bloody wait. Just writing about it now gives me goosebumps. 2014 going to be a busy, epic year of photography.
But right now, it’s cold. It’s dark. Christmas is on it’s way. I’m resting up and enjoying the rest of what life has to offer. I’m kicking back and leaving the DSLR’s and the big expensive lenses safely away in the camera bag.
But this hasn’t meant no photography. Just a different type of photography. The kind of photography where you just follow your gut and capture what’s right in front of you.
Just snapshots. Innocent, harmless and fun snapshots.
Of course I love the level of freedom and options a DSLR, lenses, flash and photoshop can offer me. I’ll always love to shoot things that inspire me and create an emotional response. To plan, approach and create images with meaning and context, to search out ideas and situations I can get my creative teeth into.
But…
Snapshots are quick. They’re easy. They can mean something, or they can mean nothing at all. See, snap and move on. It’s just a picture. These below are just pictures.
With just an iPhone, I’ve taken more snapshots, more photos without thought, than I have in a long time. And it’s been awesome. Fun, instantly gratifying, no strings attached photography.
After a month of snapshots, I’m not only feeling more engaged and creative, but also more appreciative of just how I can use that honest, gut feeling when it comes to my wedding and portrait work.
Like I said, I can’t wait for things to come.
