I really struggled with the idea of doing a “best of” end of year blog post, where I write about all the great accomplishments we’ve had in 2014. Likewise, contemplating the idea of picking through nearly 20,000 photos to pick just a handful for this post gave me a cold sweat. But then I really thought about all the wonderful people we’ve met, and laughed and cried with, all the nerves, all the excitement. I’m a sentimental guy, and it seemed like a disservice to not recognise just how incredible 2014 has been; not just for us, but also all of our couples, clients and newly weds who we’ve called, emailed, hugged and of course photographed.
We may not have had any flashy, destination weddings or traveled to Hong Kong or New York like we planned, but on the upside we have been to more corners of the UK in the last 12 months then we’ve been in years. London, Liverpool, Manchester, Oxfordshire, Chester, Hampshire, Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, St Ives and the every nook and cranny of our home patch in the Cotswolds to name a few. If there’s a field or forest in Gloucestershire, we’ve probably taken pictures in it.
I’m also super thankful for all of the awesome photographers I’ve had opportunity to work with this year. I’ve been a second shooter on 21 weddings in 2014, some of which are the best photographers in the country. You have no idea how difficult it was to avoid acting like a total fan boy. These wonderful opportunities have helped me with invaluable experience, and it’s been ace to have moments of wedding photographer chit chat.
I think we’ll see 2014 as year as transitional one; balancing this growing adventure with a full time day job has been difficult at times. But looking at how far we’ve come, from our first paid wedding in summer 2013, to having 28 bookings for 2015 (so far), we cannot deny that this journey has been an awesome one, and we can’t wait to see where it goes. Here’s to another 12 months of exploring, learning and new experiences, and most of all doing work we are truly proud of.
